Seyit Ali Çabuk, popularly known as Seyit Onbaşı (Corporal Seyit), was a Turkish artilleryman in the Ottoman Army during World War I. He is celebrated as a Turkish hero for his actions at the Battle of Gallipoli.
During the naval assault on 18 March 1915, Ottoman artillery batteries were heavily bombarded. Seyit, serving as a gunner in the Mecidiye battery, was reported to have single-handedly carried three 276 mm (11 in) artillery shells, each weighing 275 kg (606 lb), to his gun after the crane mechanism was destroyed. With these shells, he managed to severely damage the British battleship HMS Ocean. The Ocean, already damaged by a mine, eventually capsized.
Seyit's act significantly boosted the morale of the Ottoman troops. After the war, he returned to his village and worked as a farmer and lumberjack.
He is remembered as a symbol of Turkish courage and resilience in the face of adversity.
